FANDANGOS/HUAPANGOS
Fandangos or Huapangos are the traditional celebration of música de jarana. In a fandango, musicians ranging in all ages and expertise gather around a wooden platform known as a tarima and play traditional sones, lasting the entire night, often til dawn.
Jarochicanos has organized multiple fandangos in Chicago for the last decade as a way of ensuring the survival of música de jarana as a community practice locally.
